This past month we learned about the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Tony McDade, and David McAtee.
This past week, we’ve seen an outpouring of emotions across the country… across the world.
These murders resulted in civil disobedience. Protests around the country, the ransacking of business, and the rally cries of “No justice. No peace” ringing out across the crowds.
But it’s not just about their deaths. It’s about the entire system being unjust.
White supremacy causing the deaths of people of color is nothing new.
Institutional racism is nothing new.
Standing up against these things isn’t new either.
This country was built upon achieving the real definition of equality and justice as defined by the people, for the people.
More and more, these rally cries are meeting at the intersection of race, gender, and class.
Here at Garbo, we realize that we can not have gender equity if we don’t have racial equity.
Which is why we’re committed to doing the work. We are protesting. We are donating. We are learning.
Over the next few months, we will work with racial equality nonprofits and leaders while maintaining the advisory relationships we’ve already established. We will continue to prioritize marginalized communities in our work because we know that systemic pervasive oppression has created and upheld vulnerability to gender-based violence. We will actively seek feedback from women in these communities so our platform is one that they will be able to benefit from. We will continue standing up for justice.
